Pre-Registration Jitters

User photo not available Monday, 02 November 09 - 01:45 PM (GMT)
By Kristin Reyes Casas in University of the Philippines

It's 9:34 pm at my computer clock. Tomorrow's the first day of registration. Normally, I would have slept this time because I need to wake up early. But today, I feel nothing. I don't feel sleepy. Tomorrow should be a big day, considering that it will be my final registration as an undergraduate. Hmmmm. I admit, I was traumatized by the registration last semester. But I know it was all of the best. My accidental subjects, German 10 and 11 saved my academic life.

I will aways remember my registrations in UP. It's hell, but at the end of the day, I will have my well-earned rest and satisfaction. I will miss UP. I will miss my undergraduate life

Entitled "Siya na Nga", this is the Official Theme Song of Noynoy Aquino

Download the mp3 file here.

SIYA NA NGA!
Aaaaaahaahhaah….
Solo:
Hanap ko ay tunay na kalayaan
Hatid sa’ting lahat, disenteng kabuhayan
Hanap ko ang isang tunay na pinuno
Sa kahirapan, lahat tayo’y ihahango

Chorus:

Siya na ba? Siya na nga! Siya nawa.
Tapos na sana ang matinding pighati
Siya na ba? Siya na nga! Harinawa.
Tanggalin ang tiwali. Itatama ang mali!
Aaaaaahaahhaah….
Solo:
Babalik ang aming paniniwala
Ibibigay muli aming pagtitiwala
Hindi ka na namin pababayaan
Hinding-hindi ka namin iiwanan
Chorus
Siya na nga! Walang bahid, walang duda!
Buhay muli ang pag-asang minimithi
Siya na nga! Walang bahid, walang duda
Tanggalin ang tiwali, itatama ang mali!
REFRAIN:
Gising na mahal kong bayan
Siya na nga, maari kang tumaya
Sa pagtanggol ng kalayaan, kasama ka sa
Laban na tapat, laban ng lahat.
Chorus:
Siya na nga! Walang bahid, walang duda
Buhay muli ang pag-asang minimithi
Siya na nga (Siya na nga!) Walang bahid, walang duda
Tanggalin ang tiwali, itatama ang mali
Siya na nga (Siya na nga!) Walang bahid, walang duda
Buhayin muli ang pag-asang minimithi
Siya na nga (Siya na nga!) Walang bahid, walang duda
Tanggalin ang tiwali, itatama ang mali
Siya na nga! Siya na nga….(REPEAT)
……SIYA NA NGA

I'm back!

After enduring heavy storms of exams and papers, IT'S SEMBREAK TIME! Yes! And I am currently making a cross-stitched protrait of Former President Corazon Aquino. I'll post the pictures when I'm done!

And I have the previledge of making a speech before my former alma mater, Holy Spirit Academy of Malolos. I'll be talking about Math in front of high school students. What about Math? I don't know yet. I still have to create a topic for them to enjoy.

Bah! Lots to do this semestral break!

The Beginning of the End

User photo not available Thursday, 15 October 09 - 11:53 PM (GMT)
By Kristin Reyes Casas in Computerized Registration System
Computerized Registration System (CRS) is an online class management module in UP Diliman wherein students get to choose their classes online so that their registration process will be easier. It has been running since I was a freshie, and in general, CRS wasn't kind nor cruel to me. Just so so. I usually need to enlist only one or two subjects.

Last Tuesday was the last day for students to choose their subjects. I picked out BroadComm 10, Nat Sci 1, Math 164, Math 211 and Math 128.

And the results where released just now.

Yay! For the first time in 8 semesters in the university, I got all the subjects I needed! So, in other words, my schedule looks like this:

 (Click the image to enlarge)

But then again, the CRS made me realize one thing: that I am on my final semester in UP (as an undergraduate, at least), and it feels very nostalgic. It feels like yesterday that I was a freshie looking for nonexistent rooms, or standing up when being asked by a prof. Time flies so fast. I wish that I can stop it, but no. But I can make my last sem so worth it. I promise to give it all. My acads okay, my proposed projects pushed through. Kaya ko ito! Aja!

My trip to the Senate

User photo not available Thursday, 15 October 09 - 05:29 PM (GMT)
By Kristin Reyes Casas in Senate of the Philippines
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit the seat of legislature of the country: The Senate of the Philippines. As a second-time visitor, I was intimidated with the aura of the building and its 'inhabitants'. The men and women in these halls controls much of our lives, some of them even present in almost all of our TV screens.

I went there to meet with an associate of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan. Of course, proper decorum must be observed in times and placed like this. I had much difficulty being refined and gentle (because that's my polar opposite), but the meeting went well. Whoo! The worst is over.

Since I was in the Senate, I'd better take the advantage. My companion escorted me to the 5th floor where the Senator's offices are located. I had to get the contacts of Senators Villar, Escudero, Aquino and Madrigal (you might have a good idea what my agenda is right now)

The thing that most struck me in the Senate is Senator Madrigal's office. OMG. It looks like a European hotel lobby, complete with European style furnishing and upholstery. Plus, the office's scented. I really can't help but to think how much money was spent to refurbish her office.

We went back to the second floor. I would have wanted to talk with Sen. Kiko's associate more but sadly, she had work to do so she had to go. But before we parted ways, she escorted me to the session hall, were the Senate hearings are conducted. It was my first time to hear a Senate session live and alive (the first Senate session I heard as during the impeachment trial of President Estrada. I watched it like a full-blown teledrama).

I was just in time to watch it. After the preliminaries, it was Sen. Aquino and Sen. Roxas' turn in the Senate floor. But since Sen. Roxas called in sick, Sen. Angara took over his place and deliberated with Sen. Aquino. They were debating about Resolutions #1981 and #1989, about placing the entire archipelago under state of calamity after the typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.

Watching from afar, I really can't help but notice Sen. Aquino's receding hairline. In fact, it was worse than ever.  Where's Kris when you need her? LOL

It was very disappointing to see that none of the senators were paying attention to the deliberation. Lots of them were chit-chattng with each other, standing, walking around, like school children without their teacher. In fact, I could have listed those who are NOISY, STANDING, and NOT IN PROPER SEAT.

Frustrated with what I was seeing, I left the Senate around 4 pm. I ended my trip with a disappointed heart, seeing that millions pay for the salaries of these people and yet those 14 senators take those millions for granted (FYI, 14 out of 24 senators were present during that day)

Obama's Other Awards: FTW!

User photo not available Monday, 12 October 09 - 04:13 AM (GMT)
By Kristin Reyes Casas in Academy Awards
So, Time Magazine had lots of fun mocking Obama on what awards he could win. Maybe I'll have lots of fun too..

Obama and the Oscar

Wow, he wins Best Actor? For what? His biopic? That's the first time an actor wins for a role portraying himself...Too bad Will Smith ain't gonna get that Oscar too soon...and Meryl Streep better get a nomination for her Hilary Clinton protrayal...

(more after the break)

Obama and the MTV Awards

So, after Obama gets the MTV Music Award, Kanye West goes up to the stage and sabotage his President. And the Presidential security won't go up stage because they never saw Kanye's Taylor Swift sabotage and they are watching a replay.

Obama and the Pulitzer

Oooh, the Pulitzer! What, his book wins the Pulitzer?! No way! Damn, Twilight might even be better than that piece of muck! No way!

Obama and the Cy Young Award

Honestly, I don't know what this is so I'm going to leave GMA's BFF unscathed in here...damn!

Obama and the Olympics

...Is he even eligible age-wise?
